New Key Cards Are Here

Access to the member's lounge and the outdoor rifle and pistol ranges is now controlled by the new card keys as of April 1st, 2005.

To get your new card key, see the bartender in the member's lounge. To get into the lounge you will have to ring the bell. Your old card will not work.

To gain access to the outdoor rifle and pistol range you will need your new card key. The database for entry into the outdoor ranges is updated every Friday night. Once you pick up your new card key, it will be activated for the outdoor ranges the following Friday night. Plan accordingly.

Some Questions and Answers:

Question: What will this cost me?

Answer: It will cost you $3.00 if you are a current member with a card key. New members just coming in will pay $6.00 as they do today.

Question: How do I get the new card key?

Answer: Come into the bar anytime during normal operating hours, show the bar tender your current card key, proof of membership and ID, hand over $3.00 and you will be given one of the new card keys.

Question: When can I get a new card key?

Answer: Anytime during normal operating hours

Question: What happens if I don't have my new card key by April 1st, 2005?

Answer: You will not be able to gain access to the main clubhouse without ringing the buzzer and you will not have access to the outdoor rifle/pistol range.

Question: Will my existing card key work with the new system?

Answer: No. The existing cards are "swipe" cards and the new cards are "proximity" cards. With the swipe cards, you swipe or slide the cards through a slot in the card reader. With the proximity cards you just touch the card to the face of the card reader. The swipe card readers cannot read the proximity cards and the proximity card reader cannot read the swipe cards.

Question: Where will the new proximity card Reader be located?

Answer: On April 1st, 2005 the existing clubhouse swipe card reader will be removed and the new proximity card reader will be installed in the same place. On the outdoor rifle/pistol range, the 4 foot gate you now use to get into the range will have a proximity reader installed on it and the new reader will be activated on April 1st, 2005.

Question: Will my membership number and card number change with the new proximity system?

Answer: Yes. The new proximity cards will be issued with a new number sequence pre-assigned at the factory.

Question: Does the new proximity card look like the current swipe card?

Answer: Yes. The new proximity cards look like a credit card but just a bit thicker.

Question: I heard a rumor that we can get a key fob type card key - is that true and is it free also?

Answer: Yes and No. They have a key card that fits on a key chain. It's about ¼" to 3/8" thick and sort of the shape of your thumb? It works the same way as the card does but is more expensive than the card. If you want the key fob type it will cost you $10. It will not be $3.00 (or $6.00 for new members) as will the credit card type.

Question: Can I get both a new card and a key fob type unit?

Answer: No. Each member will be given the choice of either one card for $3.00 or one key fob for $10.00 but not both. New Members will have the choice of one Card for $6.00 or one Key Fob for $10.00 but not both.

Question: Why are we doing this?

Answer: There are several reasons why we are doing it and doing it now. The swipe card system is considered obsolete. Several years ago there were 4 manufacturers of swipe cards and now there is just one. Just about every time we order a new batch of cards we get hit with a price increase. The proximity card system (cards and readers) is less expensive than the swipe card system. The proximity cards and readers are more durable than the swipe cards and readers. A defective or broken proximity card will be replaced free of charge. By replacing the existing swipe card system at the clubhouse we will be using the same key card for access to the clubhouse and to the outdoor rifle/pistol range.

Question: They will replace it free of charge for life?

Answer: Yes. A defective card or one that goes bad under Normal Use will be replaced FREE for Life. Now, if it goes bad under something other than Normal Use you will have to pay for a replacement. As an example, using your card as an ice scraper is not Normal Use. Another example may be using your card as a fish scalar - that's not Normal Use either. So, if you trash your card and the factory charges us for a replacement we will charge you for the replacement.

Question: What do I do with my existing swipe card once the proximity system is working April 1st?

Answer: Use it as an ice scraper or fish scalar or both or better yet, dispose of it in a proper receptacle.

Question: Will all of the new proximity cards/key fobs open the outdoor rifle/pistol range gate?

Answer: No. If you are currently allowed to use the rifle/pistol ranges as shown by the sticker on your current card key, your new proximity card or key fob will open the outdoor rifle/pistol range gate. If you are not allowed to use the rifle/pistol ranges your proximity card or key fob will not unlock the range gate. Each of the proximity readers can be programmed separately so some people will have access to both the clubhouse and outdoor range and other people will only have access to the clubhouse but not the range. All new members will have to "pass" a safe handling & shooting test before their card key will be activated to allow access to the indoor & outdoor rifle/pistol ranges.

Question: What can we expect in the future?

Answer: We are looking at the possibility of adding additional readers at both the Indoor rifle/pistol range and archery range. If we do add a reader at either, or both, the same access guidelines would apply. So, as an example, if you are not allowed access to the indoor range today, you will still not have access with the new card. If, at some later date you do get the OK to use the ranges, the readers will be reprogrammed to allow you access. We are still reviewing the options, cost, etc. of replacing the gate across the range access road. When that gate is replaced or repaired the new proximity key card will operate that also.

Question: Any other tidbits of information I should be aware of?

Yea, one more, generally, the new proximity cards/fobs can be "read" at a distance of a couple of inches. This means that in most cases you won't even have to remove the card from your wallet - just pull your wallet, touch it to the reader and it should work.

Question: What do the key cards and key fobs look like?

Answer:
