HOME FIREARM SAFETY COURSE

The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic principles of firearm safety. It concentrates on gun handling and storage within the home.

This course satisfies the state requirement of a safety course, which is needed to apply for a LTC (License to Carry). Upon finishing this course, the student should understand and be able to apply;

  • The basic elements of gun safety-attitude, knowledge and skill;
  • The fundamental rules of safe gun handling;
  • How to identify and unload different types of firearms.
  • The different types and uses of ammunition;
  • How to clean and care for guns;
  • Factors for evaluating gun storage options.
  • State Firearm Law brochures given out and discussed.

Understanding these points will enable the student to enjoy the many benefits of gun ownership and participation in shooting activities.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be issued a NRA Home Safety Completion Certificate and a Massachusetts State certificate.

Course dates will be: June 12, September 11, October 9, November 13 and December 11, 2010 from 8am to approximately 4:30 pm at Riverside Gun Club, Inc.

You need only attend one date.

Cost will be $40 per student if you are a Riverside Gun Club member and $55 if you are not a member. Make check payable to Riverside Gun Club, Inc.

NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION BASIC PISTOL MARKSMANSHIP COURSE

The course is taught by experienced Certified NRA Instructors headed by Certified NRA Training Counselor Walter F. Rodger.

The course has one main objective; to start at the beginning of pistol marksmanship and in the simplest way possible give the beginner the fundamental information necessary for safety and good shooting. Subjects Covered

  • SAFETY will be a primary objective.
  • Types of handguns and how they work.
  • Ammunition and how it works. o Guns at home.
  • Care and cleaning of firearms.
  • Sessions on the law as it pertains to firearm purchase, ownership, possession, and transportation, as well as the laws on lethal force.
  • Rifles and shotguns-How they work and handling them safely.
  • What it means to own a firearm and responsibilities of the firearm owner.
  • Shooting exercises and marksmanship.

NRA certificates will be awarded to successful students who pass the NRA written exam with a score of 80% or higher, and pass a minimum shooting requirement. A Massachusetts State Certificate will also be issued.

All equipment and ammunition will be provided.

Cost for course is $150 per student payable in advance. Checks should be made out to Riverside Gun Club and sent to Walter Rodger, 45 Underwood Avenue, Framingham, Ma. 01702. Course is restricted to 12 Students on a first come-first served basis. Minimum age is 12 years old.
